Shoprite workers in King Williams Town have joined a two-day nationwide strike called by their union for better working conditions.
The Shoprite workers dismissed from the Pelican Park Cente supermarket picketed outside the shopping centre in Cape Town on Friday. They have galvanized support from activists and community members, and have started a crowd funding initiative to sustain their struggle.
The case against 7 Shoprite workers who were dismissed after they took tips from customers has been postponed for further investigation. The retail company not only lay criminal charges of theft against the workers but dismissed them as well.
