With some help from the municipality, waste-pickers in Paarl have formed a co-operative to make themselves a living out of collecting material for recycling.
Wastepickers collect waste and contribute to cleaning the urban environment at no cost to government.
The project is part of Bontle Ke Botho, an initiative aimed at mobilising communities and other relevant stakeholders to work with government to promote a clean and green environment. At its core is the fight against poverty and unemployment.
