Trade unions in the bus industry are consulting with their members on a new wage offer from the employers.
The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union has indicated that it is still consulting with its members on a new wage offer by the employers and it expects to conclude the consultation by the end of tomorrow (Wednesday, 9 May).
The new offer is 8,75 percent increase for this year and 8,25 for the next.
“The contentious issues of double driver, insourcing of the workers and the night shift will be referred to a task team which will deal with the issues,” said SATAWU’s spokesperson Zanele Sabela.
The bus drivers have been on strike for more than 20 days and they were initially demanding a 12 percent salary increase but dropped it to 9 percent.
