Mthunzi “ Ras Moziah” Zuma’s alleged killer, Alfred Bangini (59) was granted bail of R500 by the Khayelitsha Magistrate court today. Zuma was one of hundreds of people from Town Two Khayelitsha that began occupying land near the magistrate’s court and started demarcating sites on the vacant land.
“Ras Moziah” as he was affectionately known by his friends and comrades was shot and killed on the 28th of May. According to GroundUp News, an eyewitness states that the shooting happened after they barricaded the road next to the land they were occupying. The eyewitness claims that a car approached the barricade and the driver of the car came out and shot Zuma.
Zuma’s elder sister, Zanele told Elitsha that they are sad that they have lost their brother but find courage in that the case has not been thrown it. “We won’t give up until there is justice for my brother’s blood,” said the 48-year old. Zuma claims that there have been discrepancies in the investigation. Bangini was re-arrested following a protest march by the occupiers to Lingelethu Police Station after he and a co-accused were released by the detective “because of lack of evidence”.
Bangini’s co-accused is yet to be re-arrested. Land activists claim that he is in the Eastern Cape.
The case will be back at court on 18 August.
